A Record: Controls where your domain goes for the website.
Back Link: AKA “backlinks”: Inbound links pointing to a page are referred to as back links.
Content: The words and images that make up the pages. It will differ over most pages on the site.
CNAME Record: Controls where sub-domains go for the website. For instance: mail.yourdomain.com or remote.yourdomain.com.
Domain Host: The company that controls the settings for your domain name. It is a different function than website host, although it can sometimes be the same company that does both.
Download: Copying data from one computer system to another. In other words to to unload.
DNS: The settings at your domain host that controls where the website and email are directed to. Consists of A Records, MX Records, CNAME Records, et al.
Email Marketing System: A Portal program where you can manage a list of contacts and messages for mass mailings. Also where the emailed newsletter is housed.
EMS: The Stands for “Email Marketing System.”
GIF: (Graphics Interchange Format) One of the image file formats supported on the web. This type of image is lossless compression technique.
Going Live: Switching the settings at your domain host so the site shows up at your domain URL.
Google AdWords: A pay-per-click advertising system set up through Google. These ads show up as the “sponsored links” you see at the top or side of a Google search. You set these up through a Google AdWords account, and pay only if people click your ads.
Google Analytics: A free program that allows you to discover how visitors found your site, what they’re searching for, and what brought them in by viewing the number of unique visitors, the search terms they used to find you, and how long they stayed on your site.
Google Apps: Short for Google Applications. A Google-hosted, web-based account that includes email @yourdomain.com, as well as shared calendars, shared documents and online chat feature. If CPA Site Solutions sets your email up, it will be through a Google Apps account.
Inbound Link: Links pointing to a website. When a user arrives at a website from another site, that link is called an Inbound Link.

Meta Tag: Author generated HTML commands that are placed in the head section of an HTML document. Current popular meta tags that can affect search engine rankings, are Meta Keywords, and Meta Description.
Nameservers: Nameservers makes it possible for a user to access a website by typing in the domain name instead of the website’s actual IP address.
Outbound Link: A link that points away from your website.
Paid Inclusion: Search engines (and indexes) offer paid ad space. Payment options are CPA (Cost Per Action), CPC (cost per click), and PPC (Pay Per Click). PPC is the most popular and differs from CPC in that click costs are dynamic and determined at auction
Page Rank: A method developed and patented by Stanford University and Larry Page (cofounder of Google) to rank search engine results. PageRank gives a unique ranking to every page on the internet. The ranking number is based on the number and quality of inbound links pointing at a page.
Password Protected Pages: There are times when you might want a members only area on your website. One way to do this is by setting up password protected directories with certain key pages contained in them
PDF: (Portable Document Format) A document exchange file format. Great for easily getting documents to people (via email or download), but cannot act as a valid image format to put on the site.
Picture Hub Pages: Your Tax Center page on your website is an example of a Picture Hub Page. Similar to a Tab Hub Page, you modify the order and listing of what appears on your Tax Center page from within the Site Map and not on the Tax Center page itself.
Phishing: A fraudulent site that is identical to another site that tried to obtain financial or other confidential information from Internet users.
PNG: (Portable Network Graphics)One of the image file formats supported on the web, allows the control of the degree of transparency
PPC: (Pay Per Click) PPC is a form of search engine marketing whereby an advertiser can have their ads displayed on will only incur a charge if someone clicks on their ad.
PSD: (PhotoShop Document) A design file that can be opened in Photoshop. Not a valid image file format to put on a site.
Portal: The backend of your website where Firm Users can log in to makes changes and Client Users can log on to use features.
Publishing: When your site is ready to go live, you can publish it. Click on the Publish button on the Navigational Menu and the changes to your website will be on the World Wide Web.
Quick Send: The same thing as the Secure File Send
Quick Download: The Quick download folder is your most recently uploaded files in your database. Note: You will not be able to delete any of these files because they are only shortcuts to the actual downloadable file within your client folder. This is just a quick way to download files that were recently added to your system.
Ranking: In the context of search engines, it is the position that a sites entry is displayed in a search engine query results.
Re-submitting: The process of resubmitting a web page or web site to a search engine or directory. This is often done to update a listing because of content changes, the page has moved, or the page has been removed. It can also be done after updating or optimizing a page to acquire better rankings.
Reciprocal Link: AKA “Recip Link”: A link exchange between two sites.
Registrar: The website you used to purchase your domain name. For example, Godaddy or domainsforcpas.com

Robot: A program that automatically does “some action” without user intervention. In the context of search engines, it usually refers to a program that mimics a browser to download web pages automatically. A spider is a type of robot. Some times referred to as Webbots.
Search Engine: A program designed to search a database. In the context of the Internet this refers to a website that contains a database of information from other websites. Directories of sites are *not* search engines (such as Yahoo).
