Scale Images Easily
Gimp is free. Download Gimp for free and start using it without too much of a learning curve right away. There are many free tutorials that can get you up and running in no time.
Change the size of an image. You have an image for your website but it doesn’t fall within the necessary image guidelines to be used because it is too large? Import the image into a new file, choose Image from the menu, and then Scale and you can change the image by pixel size, inches, and more. Save your file and you are done, it’s that easy.

Gimp Toolbox
Crop an image. Another popular task is to crop an image so that distracting elements are removed from view. Just as easy all you do is pick the crop tool icon from the tool box, drag over the image to what you want to keep and hit return.
The toolbox has many other features that are fun to explore and play with on any image. The tutorials make it easy enough to catch on and use any of them without too much frustration.
Flip an image. Another common task is flipping an image so that it shows in the direction you want. Choose Image, Transform, and then you can rotate or flip the image until you get it right.
Move the tool bars separate from the image. A really nice feature for being able to view images alongside each other while switching between tools, layers or brushes. Brushes and layers you might use for more complex tasks once you use the program more.
These simple features are easy enough to use right away and come in handy if you don’t manipulate images on a regular basis. Why pay for an expensive program for such simple tasks?
Yet if you want to move on to more involved tasks, Gimp has the tools and functions to handle more complex image editing projects. You can create a quick logo design, blend images together, fix red eye, enhance images that might be a little dark or a little light and more. There are many online tutorials that walk a new user through the more advanced functions of the application.
Even if you only download Gimp for a few simple tasks it is worth it. It can make editing images for use on your accounting website hosted with CPA Site Solutions a breeze.
Bonus tip: Gimp may contain more features than some users need or want. Another free photo editing software opition is Picassa from Google, which performs many basic photo editing functions through a very easy user interface.

I’m also a huge fan of paint.net. This software has a lot of the same functionality, and my favorite feature is that it supports layers.
It’s also freeware, but best of all it’s open source. This means there are tons of community made plug-ins that add some amazing effects that only really expensive graphic design software can match.
