Completely Custom Design Process

Step 1. Show us what you like

The first step in the design process lies with you: we need to know what you like in a website. We ask you to find at least 5 websites you'd like to emulate.

Here are some elements to focus on:

1. navigation menu - horizontal vs. vertical and placement
2. images - photos or illustrations, any graphics
3. colors - what colors do you like?
4. fonts - Times New Roman, Garamond, etc.
5. layout - where do the elements fall on the page? Is it a busy look or more sparse and clean?

A good place to start is with our 250 ready-to-go website templates. Please use this list to help you identify specific element you like.

Step 2. We collaborate on the design

After we hear from you on the design elements you're looking for, we create a mockup. This part of the process involves some back and forth as we perfect the design.

This is the time to polish and fine-tune the design so that it's exactly what you want.

You get up to 3 rounds of mockups. Include as many changes as you want per round. (We often get it right in the first or second round.)

Step 3. We build the website

Once you're happy with the final design, you're done! We put the pieces together, and in a few days, your new website will be on the Internet.

Frequently Asked Questions

What if 5 rounds of design mockups aren't enough?

As long as you're clear with your preferences in Step 1, then this shouldn't happen and very rarely does. If it does happen, then we'll simply bill at our design rate of $67/hr for any additional work.

What if I want to change my site after you've built it?

Absolutely no problem! Our goal is to give you the site you want. However, because this falls outside the original scope of work, any changes made after you've approved the final design will be billed at our design rate of $67/hr.

For example, if you decide two months down the road that you want to use a new set of images, we're happy to do it for you at our custom design rate. This is cheaper than paying for a full redesign.

I don't know what I want. Can you give me some ideas?

If you're looking for design suggestions, we recommend taking a look at our 250 ready-to-go designs. You'll likely find something that strikes a chord. Try to find 5 of our designs that demonstrate the elements you like, and that's enough to start with. Then we'll be ready to build you a cost-effective website for a fixed price.

If you're looking for personalized, one-on-one design consultation, then we recommend hiring a local designer to mock up your website. We can then take that mockup and build the site for you.

How long does the process take, from start to finish?

Generally, the entire process takes between 1 and 2 weeks. It depends on the volume of design requests and scope of the projects the design team is engaged in.
