Dan, captured on a bank security camera, winter 2002
A mysterious and enigmatic figure, Daniel Worthing has never been clearly caught on film. Only one blurry photograph of Dan is known to exists, though many artists have provided renderings they claim are accurate.
Evidently, he has a beard. According to several women, he is a dashing and charming gentleman.
We don’t have any doubt that Dan and his beard exist despite the lack of photographic evidence. He’s here in the office with us, he always answers his phone and his paycheck never goes uncollected.
Dan arrogantly considers himself both a writer and cartoonist and pays no attention to suggestions that his enthusiasm outweighs his talent. He spends the rest of his time haunting the many breweries and used bookstores of Vermont and providing detailed analyses of forty year old comic books and forgotten novels to whoever will listen.
He has assured us that he will restrain himself when you call for technical support. If you’d like to chat about the collapse and eventual revival of the American comic book industry following the 1954 publication of Fredric Wertham’s Seduction of the Innocent and the Senate Subcommittee on Juvenile Delinquency, you’ll have to call him at home.
